MANILA, Philippines - Public satisfaction with the Aquino administration has recovered after reaching an all-time low in the second quarter, according to the latest survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
Based on the third quarter survey first published on BusinessWorld on Monday, the Aquino administration's net satisfaction rating climbed from a "moderate" +29 in the second quarter to a "good" +35 in the third quarter.
The survey found that 59 percent of the 1,200 respondents were satisfied with the government's performance while 24 percent and 16 percent were dissatisfied and ambivalent, respectively.
In the second quarter, the administration's ratings hit record lows in all geographic areas and dropped across socioeconomic classes.
But in the previous quarter, the government only saw its rating decline in Balance Luzon (from +26 to 24) as it improved its scores in Metro Manila (from +16 to +36), Visayas (from +41 to +45) and Mindanao (from +34 to +46).
Satisfaction with the Aquino administration also recovered among those in class ABC (from +27 to +47) and among those in class D (from +27 to +33). It stayed at +38 among those in class E.

Rated on 19 national issues, the government obtained only a single "very good" score, which was on helping victims of disasters (+52).
It scored "good" on eight issues: helping the poor (+44); foreign relations (+43); defending the country’s territorial rights (+42); developing science and technology (+42); preparing for climate change (+41); providing enough supply of electricity (+41); promoting welfare of overseas Filipino workers (+39); and ensuring an efficient transportation system (+36).
The administration garnered "moderate" ratings on reconciliation with communist rebels (+28); reconciliation with Moro rebels (+27); fighting terrorism (+23); providing jobs (+21); fighting crime (+14); and eradicating graft and corruption (+14).
It received "neutral" net ratings on ensuring that no family will go hungry (-5); fighting inflation (-7); and ensuring oil firms don’t take advantage of oil prices (-7).
Its rating on resolving the Maguindanao massacre case with justice, stayed "bad" with a -36 score.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the government's newest ratings remain historically high compared to other post-EDSA administrations.
He said this shows the public's "continuing confidence in our government."
Lacierda also noted the government's high rating on post-disaster response.
"Despite negative comments made from some quarters, this survey demonstrates the people’s voice—that this administration is responsive to their needs and has been at work in the continued reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts to build back better those areas devastated by typhoons," he said.
