Senate to probe Drilon, Iloilo Convention Center

MANILA -- Senator Teofisto Guingona III said the Blue Ribbon Committee will investigate the issues surrounding the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center, which allegedly involves Senate President Franklin Drilon.

In a statement, Guingona dismissed accusations his committee will not probe the matter.
“The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee will formally investigate the alleged overpricing in the construction of the Iloilo Convention Center (ICC) and other issues related to it,” he said.

“The Blue Ribbon Committee will initiate the probe on these controversies that are also partly covered by Senate Resolution No. 906 filed by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago,” he added.

Guingona said the committee will begin the probe as soon as “initial preparations” have been completed.
The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) earlier urged administration allies in the Senate to investigate Drilon over the allegedly overpriced Iloilo Convention Center.

“We are also interested whether Senator Drilon’s supporters will show the same rapid and aggressive stance in ferreting out the ‘the truth.’ Will they conduct marathon public hearings as well as call the businessmen and contractors involved; make an ocular inspection together with media; and invite Drilon’s immediate family, as well as garnish his bank accounts?" asked UNA interim president Toby Tiangco.
