Senator
Leila Lima's 2 nephews were among of the four suspects who were arrested while
the police are conducting Oplan Tokhand operations. They were arrested in Baao,
Camarines Sur, this August 23, Tuesday.
Based on
Bicol standard, the Baao Police identified the suspects as Zaldy Botin, 31, of
San Juan: William Catangui y Cederia, 28 of San Juan: Richard De Lima, 37 and
his older brother Alexander, 39, from San Agustin, Iriga City.
The four of
them are now jailed at Baao PNP station, for further investigation.
Confiscated
from them are two medium-sized heat-sealed plastic sachets, with a substance of
suspected shabu, an unused plastic sachet; an improvised aluminum foil tooter,
two pieces of aluminum foil; and a lighter, the report said. Incidentally, authorities
said this is not the first time that the de Lima brothers were caught taking
illegal drugs.
Meanwhile,
Barangay Kagawad Elma Gaspi, a cousin of Senator de Lima, confirmed that
Alexander and Richard are both nephews of the neophyte senator. He added that
Sen. de Lima herself has previously sent her nephews to jail for the same
reason, to show to the public that she is not tolerating them, and that she is
dedicated in fighting illegal drugs.
In line with
this, Gaspi also requested the public not to link the name of Sen. de Lima in
her nephews' drug activities. He emphasized that Alexander and Richard de Lima
are the children of the senator's cousin, whom he not mention the name. As of
posting, Sen. de Lima has not issued her comment on this latest trouble linking
her name.
Senator Leila de Lima, now 56, was born and
