AFP bars Trillanes from holding press conference at Camp Aguinaldo

The military on Wednesday barred Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV from holding a press conference inside Camp Aguinaldo, main headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

"No, that is not allowed," AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said on Wednesday, upon hearing that Trillanes has invited the media to a press conference on Thursday at the AFP Commissioned Officers Club.

The advisory did not contain the topic of the press conference, although Trillanes, a vice presidential candidate in the May 9 elections, recently exposed alleged hidden accounts by presidential frontrunner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

"The AFP strictly maintains its non partisan role and will stick to its primary mandate of ensuring the security and the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections," Padilla said. "We are quite sure that the senator knows this."

Padilla appealed to "all parties to please respect the non-partisan role of the Armed Forces."
Trillanes, a former Navy officer who led at least two coup attempts during the Arroyo administration, will instead hold the press conference at Max's Restaurant on Scout Tuazon in Quezon City, according to the latest advisory from his office. —KBK, GMA News
